A small business website in Darwin typically costs between $600 and $6,000 to build, plus a small yearly cost for the domain and hosting. Simpler sites sit at the bottom of that range, and custom or e-commerce sites cost more. Monthly plans exist too, from about $40 to $300 a month.
Prices vary a lot because "a website" can mean very different things: a one-page brochure, a ten-page business site, an online store, or a booking system. This guide explains what drives the price, what you'll see advertised in Darwin, the costs people forget, and what we charge at CorewebIT, so you can budget with confidence.
What is a reasonable price to pay for a website?
For a typical Darwin small business, a reasonable price for a professional website with 5 to 10 pages is somewhere between $600 and $4,000, depending on how custom the design is and who builds it. Below that range, check what's missing. Above it, make sure you're getting something you truly need, such as an online store, a booking system or a content editor you will actually use.
In October 2026 we looked at prices advertised by Darwin and Australian providers. In broad terms:
| What you get | Typical advertised price |
|---|---|
| Single-page website | About $500 to $2,500 |
| Small business site, 5 to 10 pages | About $2,000 to $6,000 |
| Custom design with a content editor | About $6,000 to $15,000 |
| Monthly website plans | About $39 to $300 a month |
These are advertised prices, not promises, and they change. Always get a written quote.
What affects the cost of a website?
Six things move the price more than anything else:
- Number of pages. Every page needs design, writing and testing.
- Design. A custom design costs more than a template with your logo on it.
- Features. Booking forms, online payments, member logins and integrations all add time.
- Content. If you have text and photos ready, it's faster and cheaper. If we write the copy or source photos, the price rises.
- Platform. WordPress, Shopify and hand-coded sites have different build and running costs.
- Who builds it. A solo developer usually costs less than an agency with an office and sales team.

Costs people forget
The build price is rarely the whole story. Ask about these before you commit:
- Copywriting. Who writes the text? Good copy takes time, and it's often the biggest delay.
- Photography and images. Real photos of your premises, team and work build trust. Stock images may need a licence.
- Logo and branding. If you need a logo, check whether it's included or separate.
- Email. Business email at your own domain usually has a small monthly cost per mailbox.
- Extra pages and changes. How many are included, and what does an extra page cost?
- Plugins and licences. Some tools need a yearly paid licence.
- Training. Will someone show you how to update the site?
- Transfer costs. If you move providers later, can you take your site and domain with you?
What are the ongoing costs of a website?
Building the site is only part of the cost. Plan for:
- Domain name: usually around $20 to $40 a year for a .com.au.
- Hosting: from a few dollars to around $30 a month, depending on the type of site.
- Maintenance: updates, backups and security. Care plans commonly range from about $40 to $350 a month depending on what's included. Ours start from $49 a month for an existing site. See website maintenance in Darwin.
- Content changes: small edits are often included in a plan, or charged by the hour.
Can I pay monthly instead?
Yes. Some providers offer plans where you pay little or nothing upfront and a monthly fee instead. Read the minimum term and ownership terms carefully, because a low monthly fee over 24 months can add up to more than a one-off build. Our own plan is $39 a month plus a $99 setup fee, with a 6-month minimum and then month to month. We compare the options in website subscription vs one-off.
Do website prices include GST?
Not always. Many Darwin providers quote prices plus GST, which adds 10%. If you can claim GST credits, the difference won't matter. If you can't, compare GST-inclusive totals. Our prices are shown excluding GST.
How can I reduce the cost without cutting quality?
- Start with what you need. A focused 5-page site beats a 15-page site padded with thin pages. You can add pages later.
- Have your content ready. Written text, a logo and good photos save the most time.
- Choose a platform that fits. An online store you don't need is wasted money.
- Decide early. Changing direction midway is the most common cause of extra cost.
- Think in totals. Compare the total cost over two years, including hosting and care, not only the build price.
- Ask for a fixed quote. Hourly billing makes it hard to predict the final cost.
How do I avoid paying too much?
- Get two or three written quotes with the same list of requirements.
- Ask what's included: hosting, domain, SEO set-up, training and changes after launch.
- Check who owns the website and domain at the end.
- Be wary of very low prices with long contracts, and very high prices for a simple brochure site.

Frequently asked questions
How much does a simple website cost in Darwin?
A simple 5-page business website generally costs between about $600 and $3,000 in Darwin. Our Starter Site is $590 one-off, excluding GST.
Is a cheaper website worse?
Not necessarily. Price depends on scope and who does the work. A smaller, focused site built by one developer can be excellent value. Check what's included, ask to see examples, and make sure you own the site.
How long does it take to build a website?
Most small business websites take about 2 to 3 weeks once we have your text and photos. Larger sites and online stores take longer.
Do I need to pay for a website every month?
No. You can pay once and own the site, then add optional hosting or care. Or you can choose a monthly plan that includes everything.
Can I get a government grant to help pay for a website?
Possibly, in some cases. See our guide to NT grants and digital support, and check eligibility on the official pages before you spend any money.
